Description Adhatoda vasica (family Acanthaceae) commonly known as Basaka. It is a well-known herb in indigenous systems of medicine for its beneficial effects. Basaka has shown antitussive, cough expectorant, antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. Composition Each 5 ml HONEYBAS syrup contains extract of Adhatoda vasica 2.50 ml. Pharmacology Extracts of Basaka contains alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, terpenes, sugars, and glucosides. The principle constituents of Basaka are its several alkaloids, the chief one being vasicine. The leaves contain two major alkaloids called vasicine and vasicinone. Vasicine and vasicinone showed bronchodilatory activity and relaxation of the tracheal muscle. Extract of Basaka has significant amounts of antioxidant and antimicrobial agents. Basaka shown broad spectrum of antibacterial activities. Indication Cough Dry irritable cough Sore throat Bronchitis Chronic lung infection Dosage & Administration Infant & children: 1/2—1 teaspoonful 2-3 times daily. Adult: 2 teaspoonful 2-3 times daily. Or as directed by the physician. Side Effects In recommended doses no known side effects. Contraindications There is no evidence available contraindication but it may happen in patient with hypersensitive to any of its components. Use in Pregnancy The safety of HONEYBAS Syrup in pregnancy has not been established. Therefore, it should be used with caution during pregnancy. Supply 100 ml syrup in amber PET bottle with a measuring cup.
